How to Get a Kit With or Without a Prescription

How Can I Get a Kit?

With a Prescription from a Physician

Take it to a pharmacy to be filled.  If the pharmacy does not have the Naloxone  in stock, they will order it and it  will be there the next day.

Without a Prescription - Pharmacies with Tennessee Collaborative Agreements:

Pharmacies with collaborative agreements are the easiest to purchase Naloxone without a prescription. They use a prescriptive standing order similar to flu shots and shingle vaccine. The pharmacist has to complete training according to the protocol required by law.

With a Prescription and With Insurance:

Naloxone IS covered by insurance -  private insurance as well as TennCare (with prior authorization).  The easiest way to get a prescription to be covered by insurance is to go to your primary care physician.

IF you are an active user or around active users frequently, TennCare may initially deny the coverage. If this happens, APPEAL this decision and TennCare will approve the prescription.

If you still have problems, call your insurance and request a case manager. This is a person you can go to EVERY TIME with this particular issue or medication and your physician and pharmacist can all call directly to get the coverage approved.
