Police Find 60 Pounds of Marijuana Covered in Febreze at Nashville Airport
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) -- A big drug bust at the Nashville International Airport led to one arrest and the discovery of 60 pounds of marijuana, and authorities say the suspect attempted to mask the smell with Febreze.
Metro Nashville Police said Jose Medina Ayala attempted to bring the drugs into the airport on Thursday.
Investigators received a tip that someone was traveling from Los Angeles with the contraband, and a K9 was able to find two suit cases holding 51 vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana and $2,870 in cash.
Ayala allegedly sprayed the drugs with Febreze in an attempt to mask their scent. Investigators said he claimed to have no knowledge of the drugs in his luggage.
The suspect was booked on felony drug charges and is being held in a $100,000 bond.
According to WTVF, this is just the latest in a string of drug trafficking arrests at the airport. Detectives in March said someone attempted to smuggle 40 pounds of marijuana through security, and another traveler was caught with 25 pounds of pot. Authorities said both travelers were coming into Nashville from the west coast.
