Tell Your Representatives: Fund Addiction Recovery Support Services Now!

You support an individual’s right to lifelong recovery—not “one and done” policies. Access to recovery support services is vital in the fight against the national drug crisis. Recovery support services include recovery housing, peer coaches and support, employment opportunities and training, and other long-term rehabilitation programs. These services not only help people reenter society with dignity: they also offer life-saving support for a vulnerable population.

It's crucial we let our state legislators know that these services exist and encourage them to stand behind recovery support services.

More than 350 people lose their lives every day to alcohol or other drugs. Those deaths are preventable, and part of prevention means investing in long-term efforts to prevent relapse, provide resources, and encourage recovery through clear, established, research-supported pathways. Recovery rarely happens on its own.

People with substance use disorder who are at high risk for death by overdose or other health complications need more than a short-term detox program or even 28-day treatment services. Recovery goes beyond physical sobriety and medical support for people in crisis. Addiction is a chronic illness and that is why I support a life-long solution that includes services that incorporate all social determinants of health.

Recovery affects every area of a person’s life. Please fund recovery supports for people with substance use disorder. Every dollar spent on recovery frees seven dollars in state budgets. Recovery is good for the economy, the environment, and our communities. Recovery services need funding that is proportionate to the immense benefit they bring to our state. Instead of cutting costs—and putting thousands of people at risk—we must enhance existing recovery support services and recovery community organizations.

Take action to support long term recovery, starting with our state budget. I support recovery because I support a healthy, safe, strong state!
