Mom Stars, U.S. Surgeon General Team for Drug Addiction PSA (Watch Video)

Allison Janney and Anna Faris, stars of the acclaimed CBS comedy Mom, take a more serious turn in a drug addiction PSA they filmed with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek H. Murthy.

The 30-second PSA, which started coming together when Janney met Murthy at a rally last fall and subsequently invited him to the Mom set, will debut after next Thursday’s episode, “Diabetic Lesbians and a Blushing Bride.”

Janney and Faris’ Mom characters, as viewers know, battle multiple addictions and attend regular AA meetings.

“I’m proud to partner with CBS Cares and the cast and crew of Mom,” Murthy said in a statement. “Together, we want to raise awareness about an epidemic that is having a devastating impact on communities throughout our country. Drug overdoses kill more Americans than car crashes — a reminder that everyone struggling with addiction needs access to treatment, compassion and support.”

The goal of the PSA is to bring awareness to the alarming rates of overdose deaths and encourages anyone struggling with addiction to call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
