Live Tree Sales to Help Addiction Program

BRISTOL, Va. — Live Christmas trees are a tradition for many families but in Bristol some are being sold for a cause.

Tri-Cities Recovery is selling Christmas trees to raise money for the program, which helps people that are struggling with addiction.

“We decided to try this and see how we could raise some funds and not only raise the funds but connect with the community,” said Mark Mitchell, Tri-Cities Recovery director.

This is the seventh year Mitchell has been selling trees to raise money for the program’s outreach services. The trees are sold in the vacant parking lot beside Triton Express Wash across from Pal’s on Lee Highway.

Trees range from seven to nine feet tall and cost between $35 and $45. Mitchell also sells Christmas wreaths for $15. You can make your purchase there Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. or on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On the other side of Bristol in the parking lot of Southern States on Euclid Avenue Fleenor Farms Family Christmas Trees & Wreaths sets up each year to sell handpicked Christmas trees from Newland, North Carolina and homemade wreaths by Eddie Blevins, of Damascus, Virginia. Logan and Vanessa Fleenor sell the trees beginning at $35.

Amanda Campbell and her family have bought a tree from the Fleenors every year for four years. They come out the day after Thanksgiving every year to pick one out. They believe a live tree makes their home feel more Christmassy than a fake tree and they love the pine smell.

The Fleenors will deliver trees and they take special orders. They also offer special discounts to churches.
